The Native Stone Scenic Byway runs through Wabaunsee County, connecting Dover, Eskridge, Lake Wabaunsee and Alma. One very popular project put on by the byway committee is the Stone Fence Restoration Workshop!

Rocky Slaymaker, a professionally trained dry stone conservancy mason will again be the lead teacher. The dry stone fence renovation workshop is held in both the Spring and Summer each year.

Stone Fence Restoration #1

The workshop will give Kansans the opportunity to learn how their forefathers built these sturdy fences. The historic stone fences, which were authorized by the Kansas legislature in 1867, are highlights of the Kansas Native Stone Scenic Byway, sponsor of the hands-on workshop. Participants will learn the nine essential elements for successful stone fence building and repair. It involves actual stone fence repair.

Tuition is $100 and the workshop is limited to 20 people. Please fill out and return an application. There are scholarships available for young people of high school or college age.

]]> No publisher katie Paxico Social Event 2006-06-15T07:30:00Z Event CHRISTMAS AT THE LAKE Homes Tour http://www.wabaunsee.com/events/christmas-at-the-lake-homes-tour Lake Wabaunsee is hosting their CHRISTMAS AT THE LAKE Homes Tour Saturday December 1st from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.  Tickets are $5.00 in advance and $7.00 at any tour location.  Proceeds are donated to the Wabaunsee Pines Golf Course.  The Tour of Homes will begin at the Mehrhof Log Cabin by the East Bridge.  A map of the lake with the homes to tour is available there. I'm looking forward to enjoying a fire in their beautiful fireplace!

 

Glen & Nikki Feuerborn, 386 Lakeshore, will be the next stop with Mary Reed Spencer's home just down the road at 370 Lakeshore.  Rich & Cindy Langworthy are opening their home at 334 E Flint Hills Dr. as well as Dave & Sherry Kriegshauser's at 240 W. Flint Hills Drive.  Be sure to stop by the Wabaunsee Pines Club House.  It has been transformed into a Holiday Country Store.  Hand and home-made goodies will be for sale to browse as you enjoy refreshments that will be available for you there.  A door prize drawing and quilt raffle will take place at 8pm.  Get your advance tickets at the Eskridge & Alma banks, Lake Wabaunsee restaurants and the Eskridge Library or call 785-449-2723 or 785-442519.

The tour is scheduled for evening so that we can enjoy everyone's lighted home.  Please do your part to lighten up the neighborhood by having your lights up and on for the tour.  We appreciate your participation!
