Too many rural communities invest in businesses that export, rather than build, local wealth. Home Town Competitiveness (HTC) and its partners encourage communities to become involved in nurturing local enterprise in three specific areas: • Saving Main Street and other key businesses through planned ownership succession • Creating new wealth and good jobs by helping entrepreneurial companies • Using local charitable assets to support entrepreneurship development

February will be the Entrepreneurship Workshop!
Please join us in Herington for our first lesson in community sustainability!
The Four Pillars, the structure behind the concept of Home Town Competitiveness, will be presented in a series of workshops in the next several months. The Home Town Competitiveness approach offers hope for communities being swept away by change that has caused severe out migration, growing levels of poverty and the flight of youth. Workshops are sponsored in part by South Central Kansas Economic Development District and the Kansas Health Foundation and presented in part by the HTC Development Partners.
The first, the Entrepreneurship Workshop will be held February 26 in Herington. The second, the Charitable Assets Workshop, will be held March 26 in Marion. The third, the Youth Attraction Workshop, will be held April 23 in Alma. The fourth, and final of this series, the Community Leadership Workshop, will be held May 21 in Marion. Everyone is welcome to attend these informational and educational workshop including Community leaders, City and County officials, civic and service organizations, foundation boards, business leaders, economic development professionals, school counselors, entrepreneurs and anyone interested in supporting and offering leadership in our communities.
Each workshop will focus on the Pillars necessary to help sustain and enhance our communities. The workshops are sponsored and supported by a number of organizations dedicated to local community development and economic stimulus. Pre-registration is recommended. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
