Come and experience farming with horses as in yesteryear... We have invited friends from around the State to come and participate in putting up a hayfield the "HORSEWAY". We hope to have teams of every breed, size and color represented at this event. So far we have teams committed from the Council Grove, Alma, Eskridge, Osage City, and Harveyville areas and we are waiting on our friends from southeastern & south central Kansas to call. It should be a very memorable happening. So bring your kids, a chair and your camera because you won't want to miss any of the action as the teamsters work their horses! The hosts of the day are Jim Thompson of Horseway Farms and Adventures, Eskridge, KS and Collin & Cara Zirkle of Zirkle Cattle Co, Harveyville, KS.

Jim was recently featured in the summer edition of the international
publication “The Draft Horse Journal” where it speaks of his love of working
with horses and his desire to share that love with others.  The “Hay Days”
idea was one that came to fruition during hay season last year when people
kept stopping by the hay field to take pictures, videos and rides with Jim
on the cart behind the horses, in front of the rake.  He found that there
was an obvious interest out there besides his own and decided to make a
special day to help make it a more special experience for the general public
and also for some of the teamsters who like to gather like they did years
ago to help each other out and share in the camaraderie brought on by these
magical beasts.

This is something for absolutely any age, our elders love to relive their
youth through memories of a horse who used to work their farms or take them
to school, those up the line a few more years remember going to grandpas
farm and seeing his horses work or getting to ride an old horse he had
around, next are those who have never had a horse experience and have always
wanted one and fall in love with these gentle giants plus the added bonus of
a truly relaxing adventure away from the hullaballoo of the techno driven
society we find ourselves living in and lastly come the children, omigosh
the smiles…it is my very, very favorite thing in the world to help these
little guys down from the wagon and see those sparkling, excited eyes with
ear to ear smiles wanting to go to the head of the wagon to see the horses
and get a pet and say thank you for the ride.  It is probably my favorite
thing because number one it is making a child unbearably happy and number
two it makes Jim unbearably happy to see the next generation as excited as
he was at their age over what he loves most and his smile is just as big as
theirs is over their joy!

Attendees of the recent Alma Sesquicentennial were very excited to hear
about this upcoming event and had many questions about it, much of it
brought on by the enjoyment of the ride they had just taken behind one of
the teams that will be in attendance at “Hay Days”.  We gave approximately
200 rides at this fabulously presented event and hope that everyone there
had as good of an experience as we did!
